Dakota Lithium creates sustainable energy products for people wanting to explore nature beyond the power grid. With a strong belief that quality makes a difference, their main target group are quality focused consumers - also known as prosumers.
I joined Dakota Lithium late 2021 to design the Power Gauge app that would let their users monitor the batteries. My work included workshop with stakeholders, desktop research, user flows, information architecture, UX/UI design and leading the project into production.
The Power Gauge app consists of a few well thought out main screens and a lot of detailed views over the battery's data. Following a "drill down" structure, my main focus were to make sure that the overview were comprehensible for all users, whilst providing detailed data for the prosumers.
A particularly important feature is the notifications. Since the battery often powers vehicles such as fishing boats, it is critical to recieve information about the battery's State of Charge if approaching low levels.
Dakota Lithium also requested a dashboard to analyze user behaviour and manage marketing campaigns for the app. I therefore designed a custom admin system for this purpose alone as shown below.
The app is still under development and a reference group of over 100 power users have been contacted for a beta-launch. After a few weeks of testing in real-life use cases the users will be contacted for feedback.
Dakota Lithium has with the pivot into smart batteries places themselves at the front of their competition and secured their place as a premium battery manufacturer.
